Galaxy Express 999

Synopsis

By turning their bodies into machines, people no longer had to die. Even in such an age, there were still the poor. To them a machine body was costly, and they could not buy one. Then a rumor spread. Whoever rode the Galaxy Express 999, it said, could reach a planet that gives machine bodies away for free.

The boy Tetsuro Hoshino and his mother, trusting the rumor, set out for Megalopolis, a station of the Galaxy Railway. On the way, the two are caught in Count Mecha’s hunt for humans, and his mother is killed.

Settled in the slums of Megalopolis, Tetsuro watches for a chance to get a pass for the Galaxy Railway, but when he tries, he fails. But the mysterious beauty Maetel, whom he meets just then, gives him a pass for the Galaxy Super Express 999, and Tetsuro leaves Earth with her.

On the journey, through meeting and parting from the bandit Antares, the pirate Emeraldas, and Captain Harlock and his close friend Tochiro Oyama, Tetsuro little by little grows strong.
