Rurouni Kenshin

Synopsis

In the Japan of the Bakumatsu there was a swordsman of fearsome skill who made people tremble as the strongest of assassins. People called him “Hitokiri Battousai”. With the dawn of the new era, “Meiji”, he suddenly vanished from the stage of history, and his name turned into legend.

Ten years later, Battousai, who has strictly forbidden himself to kill, has traded that sword for a “reverse-blade sword”, which can never cut a person down, and, calling himself the wanderer Kenshin Himura, he appears in the old downtown of Tokyo to save those who are weak and to bring about the restoration in its true sense.

By a twist of chance Kenshin meets the swordswoman Kaoru Kamiya and comes to live as a guest at the Kamiya dojo, where Kaoru is the acting instructor.

After that, little by little, companions who feel for Kenshin’s character and way of life begin to gather around him. The boy swordsman Yahiko Myojin, the hot-blooded fighter for hire Sanosuke Sagara and others start coming and going at the dojo too, and end up rushing about with Kenshin to solve all kinds of incidents.

Kenshin has no taste for needless fights, but men who challenge the legend of his being the strongest, and who mean to take the name of the strongest into their own hands, come after Kenshin and his friends.

Will Kenshin be able to live on, protecting his companions, without breaking his vow “not to kill”…?
