Synopsis
The Shohoku basketball team has lost to Kainan in the first game of the final league of the Inter-High qualifier. Convinced that the loss to Kainan was down to his own mistake, Hanamichi has shaved his head, his hair still red!
All the same, the Shohoku team has gone back to practice for the remaining games of the final league. Just then a blond man suddenly appears in the gym and slams a dunk out of nowhere!! It is the blond man Hanamichi happened to run into on his way to school. He turns out to be Michael Okita, of the Ryokufuu High basketball team!
Together with the team’s manager, Eri Fujisawa, who came with him, he challenges Shohoku to a practice game! Ayako and the others try to turn it down, being in the middle of the final league, but they rise to Eri’s taunt that “the close game against Kainan was a fluke” and end up accepting the practice game. Then Eri says the practice game will be played right away, that very day!!
At last the game begins, in Ryokufuu’s gym. Mitsui, Ryouta and the others went in thinking little of a newly founded basketball team, but Ryokufuu is a powerhouse whose players were gathered from all over the country by Eri, the daughter of the school’s board chairman and a huge basketball fan. The team is stunned by the play of Michael, the basketball exchange student from America, of the vice-captain Nadaka, who played in the national junior high tournament, and of the Tsurumi twins at guard.
Without Akagi, its pillar, Shohoku falls far behind from the start. It may only be a practice game, but the Shohoku of now cannot afford to lose. Can they turn it around…!?
