Slam Dunk

Synopsis

Hanamichi Sakuragi is a sorry guy who was turned down by no fewer than fifty girls in his three years of junior high. The shock of hearing the fiftieth say “I like Oda from the basketball team” still lingers, and even after entering Shohoku High he overreacts to the very word “basketball” and cannot get back on his feet.

Then one day, a beautiful girl calls out to him in the hallway. “Do you like basketball?” The girl, Haruko, is exactly his type, so Hanamichi answers without a moment’s hesitation: “I love it!!”

Dreaming of the day he will walk to and from school with Haruko, the girl he adores, Hanamichi starts training at basketball. But Haruko has her heart set on the basketball team’s rookie, Kaede Rukawa.

Right after he learns this, a ball from the basketball team’s practice happens to hit Hanamichi in the face… and in a rage he throws himself at the team’s players. Then the team’s captain, Akagi, appears. In front of Akagi, who loves basketball more than anything, Hanamichi insults the team as the “ball-tossing club”, makes him furious, and ends up facing him in a basketball showdown.

Can the beginner Hanamichi really win this reckless showdown?!

Rivals from powerhouse schools stand in the way of the beginner Hanamichi Sakuragi: Ryonan, with the genius Sendo; Kainan, a regular at the Inter-High, led by Maki, the number one player in Kanagawa; Shoyo, which has Fujima and makes its outstanding height its weapon.

Can Shohoku High keep winning in Kanagawa, a prefecture crowded with strong teams? And will the dream of Shohoku’s captain Akagi, the national title, come true?

The fight of the self-proclaimed “genius” Hanamichi Sakuragi begins now!!
